Citizenship Answers (citizenshipanswers.com) is a study aid for the U.S. citizenship civics test. This page explains what we collect and what we do not. Questions: [email protected].

Studying is anonymous

You can read all 128 questions and answers without an account and without giving us any personal information.

My Details stays on your device by default

When you fill in the My Details form — your name, date of birth, address, country of birth, the year you became a permanent resident, and your state officials — it is saved in your own browser using local storage. By default it is never sent to us and never stored on any server. There are exactly two exceptions, both of them yours to switch on and both explained below: asking us to look up your address, and turning on sync. Your own answers to the N-400 interview questions are covered by neither exception — they stay in your browser under every setting, and nothing on this site sends them anywhere. Clear your browser data to remove all of it at any time.

Study progress, and optional sync

As you answer practice questions we keep a study schedule — which of the 128 questions you have answered, whether you got each one right, and when to show it to you again. By default this is saved only in your own browser, like your My Details, and is never sent to us. If you hold a licence you may switch on sync from the Progress page to carry your studying between your own devices. Sync is off unless you turn it on. Turning it on is your permission for us to store what sync carries, so please read this before you do. While sync is on, we store — tied to your licence key and nothing else — your study schedule (question numbers and review dates) and the My Details you have filled in: your name, date of birth, address, country of birth, the year you became a permanent resident, and your state officials. We store them only so the same details reach your other devices. We do not sell them, we do not use them for advertising, and we do not hand them to USCIS or any other authority. We do not store your answers to the N-400 interview questions; those stay in your browser whether sync is on or off. Our server accepts only the fields named here and throws everything else away, so nothing more can be sent even from a modified browser. We keep the copy for as long as sync is on. You can turn sync off and delete the copy we hold at any time, from the same page: turning it off stops anything new being stored, and deleting erases what is already there.

Looking up your address

My Details can look your address up to find the congressional district you live in, so the site can show you your own representative. This is optional and happens only when you type an address and ask for the lookup. The U.S. Census Bureau's address service cannot be called from your browser directly, so your address travels through our server on its way there. While it passes through, it exists only in the memory of that single request: we do not write it to a database, we do not write it to a log, and it is gone as soon as the request finishes, normally in well under a second. We do not keep the district we get back either — it goes straight to your browser. The one exception is sync: if you have turned sync on, the address saved in your My Details is stored with the rest of your details, as described above. If you would rather not send your address at all, skip the lookup and choose your district yourself; everything else works the same.

Payments

If you buy access, the payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your name, email, and card details to take the payment. We receive your email address and a record that you paid, so we can give you access and send a receipt. We never see or store your full card number.

Preventing account sharing

Your $9 purchase is a personal license. To keep it from being shared like a password, when you unlock a device we record which devices are signed in and each sign-in's approximate region (country, state or region, and city) plus a one-way, salted fingerprint of your network. We do not store your IP address, we do not use this to track you across other websites, and we do not link it to your study answers. We use it only to detect one license being used in many places at once and to alert us to possible sharing. This information is kept briefly and then removed.

Email

After a purchase we email a sign-in link and a receipt to the address you used at checkout. We send these through Cloudflare's email service and use your address only for messages about your access.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics and PostHog to understand how the site is used and improve it. We configure them to store data in your browser (not cookies), and we do not track you across other sites or record your screen.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising trackers. We share information only with the services needed to run the site: Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for hosting and email, and Cloudflare Analytics and PostHog for usage analytics.

Your choices

Clear your browser storage to erase your personalization and your study progress. If you turned on progress sync, you can turn it off and delete the synced copy from the Progress page. To see or delete the record of your purchase, email [email protected].

Children

This site is meant for adults preparing for naturalization and is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
